Marriage is not just a union of two people and families that need to be done in a rush. It’s a bond that needs to start with a beautiful beginning with your family and spouse, allowing you to enjoy your marriage ceremony and traditional ceremonies without the tension of returning to work.  To respect the life moments of UAE residents and promote happiness, the UAE government announced new marriage leave policies of 10 days for its workers this July.

Announcement:

On 16th July 2025, His Highness Sheikh Muhammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the current ruler of Dubai, announced 10 days of fully paid marriage leave for UAE employees. The employees must be Emirati and employed in Government Departments, including military employees, except for the cadets. It is worth noting that the spouse must be a UAE resident and the marriage must be certified by the UAE authorities as well. Marriages that occurred after January 1, 2025, are eligible for leave, but those that occurred in 2024 are not. Employees can take leave after submitting their marriage certificate to the HR department of their company.

Benefits

Employees can retain the benefits of their full gross salary during leave, including other allowances and company benefits. The government will not permit the department to contact its employees during leave for any work-related purposes, except in cases of military operational needs in the region.  The employee can merge their marriage leave with any of their leftover leaves.

The policy’s main focus is to support family building and promote work-life balance, while also reducing the stress of work on newlywed couples. By offering such support, Dubai is raising the bar and standards for employee support and well-being that many governments in the world don’t support.
