Sharjah Authority issues advisory on “How to store medicines safely”

The Sharjah Civil Defence Authority has advised on simple measures and methods to ensure public safety and prevent accidental poisoning. Under the slogan ‘Stay Alert, Stay Safe,’ Sharjah Authorities are working one step ahead to avoid the mishandling of medicines and provide key precautions to protect children from unsupervised access to drugs.

First things first, they advised that higher shelves are not the solution as many children reach into them out of curiosity; instead, use tight locked cabinets for all medicinal storage.

Second, don’t consider tamper-evident containers safe; they are not child-proof. Medications should be stored away from sunlight and heat to maintain their quality. Most drugs are sensitive to heat and humidity. Expiration dates should be monitored regularly.

The Sharjah Civil Defence Authority has stressed the importance of a proactive attitude towards safety measures in every household.
