Faster Journeys Across the UAE
Ahmed Al Musawa, a key voice in the Etihad Rail project, confirmed that the upcoming passenger train service will dramatically reduce travel times and improve connectivity between the emirates. Here’s what you can expect:
Abu Dhabi to Dubai: 50 minutes
Abu Dhabi to Fujairah: 100 minutes
Dubai to Fujairah: 50 minutes
Abu Dhabi to Ruwais: 70 minutes
Which Cities Will the Rail Network Serve?
The Etihad Rail passenger service will connect 11 major cities, towns, and communities across the UAE. Confirmed stops include:
Abu Dhabi
Ruwais
Al Mirfa
Sharjah
Al Dhaid
Fujairah
The full network will stretch from Al Sila in the west to Fujairah in the east, offering a reliable, fast alternative to road travel.
First Stop: Fujairah
The first passenger station to be completed will be located in Fujairah, specifically in the Sakamkam area. The announcement followed a site inspection of a 145km segment linking Sharjah to Fujairah Port. It was also confirmed that Spain’s CAF will supply and maintain the passenger trains.
When Can You Ride the Train?
While there’s no official launch date, projections point toward a phased rollout before 2030. At Expo2020’s Projects of the 50 event, it was revealed that:
Passenger services are part of Phase 2, following the freight rollout.
The system is expected to carry over 36.5 million passengers annually by 2030.
With the network already more than 70% complete, it’s likely that service could begin much sooner than expected.
