Dubai Airport Retains Title as World’s Busiest for Another Year

Dubai Airport Remains the World’s Busiest for International Passenger Traffic in 2024

Dubai International Airport (DXB) has once again claimed the title of the world’s busiest airport for international traffic in 2024, according to a new report by Airports Council International (ACI) World, as reported by Emirates News Agency.

DXB Tops Global List for International Passengers

Dubai Airport continues to dominate the international aviation landscape, outperforming other major global hubs. In 2024, DXB ranked first for international passenger traffic, followed by:

  • London Heathrow (LHR)

  • Incheon, Korea (ICN)

  • Singapore Changi (SIN)

  • Amsterdam Schiphol (AMS)

  • Paris Charles de Gaulle (CDG)

  • Istanbul (IST)

  • Frankfurt (FRA)

  • Hong Kong (HKG)

  • Doha (DOH)

Global Passenger Traffic Reaches 9.5 Billion in 2024

The aviation industry continues its post-pandemic recovery, with global passenger numbers reaching 9.5 billion in 2024—a 9% increase compared to 2023. Passenger numbers are expected to rise even further to 9.9 billion in 2025, showing steady growth in global air travel demand.

DXB Ranks Second in Total Passenger Volume Worldwide

While Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport in the United States holds the top spot for total passengers, Dubai International Airport comes in second globally, followed by Dallas Fort Worth International Airport. When it comes to cargo traffic, Hong Kong International Airport leads the list.

Massive Eid Travel Surge at Dubai Airport

During the Eid holidays, Dubai Airport witnessed one of its busiest travel periods, with over 3.6 million passengers passing through its terminals. Daily traffic averaged around 276,000 travelers, with the first week of April marking the peak of the surge.

DXB Continues Its Legacy at the Top

According to global travel data provider OAG, DXB was also named the world’s busiest international airport earlier in January 2024. With 60.2 million seats sold last year, it retained the top spot for the second consecutive year. The airport has now held the number one position in 2019, 2023, and again in 2024.
