Did You Know? These Dubai Metro Station Names Are Here to Stay

Good to Know: These Dubai Metro Station Names Can’t Be Changed

Every now and then, we hear about a Dubai Metro station getting a new name. It’s not exactly breaking news, but it’s definitely something regular Metro users should keep an eye on — nobody wants to miss their stop because it suddenly has a new name!

Back in March, a well-known Red Line station got a rebrand, which got us thinking… are there any stations that are off-limits for name changes? The answer is yes — and no matter how tempting a big cheque may be, these stations are here to stay.

Red Line Stations That Won’t Be Renamed

These are considered landmark locations, and their names are permanent fixtures:

  • Emirates

  • Airport Terminal 3

  • Airport Terminal 1

  • World Trade Centre

  • Emirates Towers

  • DIFC

  • Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall

  • Business Bay

  • Dubai Internet City

  • DMCC

  • Ibn Battuta

  • Jumeirah Golf Estate

Green Line Stations That Are Locked In

More iconic stops that won’t be seeing name changes anytime soon:

  • Creek

  • Al Jaddaf

  • Dubai Healthcare City

  • Oud Metha

  • Al Ras

  • Baniyas Square

  • Salah Al Din

  • Abu Bakr Al Siddique

  • Abu Hail

So… Why Can’t These Stations Be Renamed?

Simple — the RTA has classified these stations as key Dubai landmarks. Since launching the naming rights initiative in 2009 (a global first at the time), the RTA has allowed businesses to sponsor stations. That’s why you occasionally see new names pop up.

But when it comes to these landmark stations, it doesn’t matter how much money is offered — these names stay untouched.

Naming Rights: What’s the Price Tag?

According to Gulf Business, getting your name on a Dubai Metro station could cost up to Dhs40 million for a 10-year sponsorship — depending on the station’s location and popularity.

Remember when InsuranceMarket took over Mashreq Metro Station in September 2024? That’s the one with Alfred’s face front and center.

Will we see another station renamed soon? Possibly — especially if you frequent Old Dubai. But rest assured, the landmarks listed above will always be just that — familiar, permanent, and part of Dubai’s daily rhythm.
