UAE Food Bank Sets Goal to Provide 7 Million Meals This Ramadan

The UAE Food Bank has set an ambitious goal of providing 7 million meals during Ramadan, ensuring that those in need can experience the spirit of generosity and togetherness throughout the holy month.

This initiative aligns with the UAE’s commitment to reducing food waste and supporting underprivileged communities by distributing meals and essential food supplies.

With the help of volunteers, partners, and donors, the UAE Food Bank continues to make a meaningful impact, spreading kindness and solidarity across the country.

United in Giving: UAE Food Bank’s Ramadan Initiative

Under the guidance of Her Highness Sheikha Hind bint Maktoum bin Juma Al Maktoum, wife of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the UAE Food Bank has launched the ‘United in Giving’ initiative. This noble effort aims to provide seven million meals to those in need throughout Ramadan, embodying the spirit of generosity and community.

Promoting Sustainability and Generosity

The ‘United in Giving’ initiative is part of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives (MBRGI), a foundation dedicated to promoting sustainable food habits, reducing waste, and fostering community participation in charitable efforts.

The initiative is built around three key sub-initiatives:

✅ Blessing Baskets – Focuses on daily meal distribution to those in need.

✅ Zabeel Iftar – Provides iftar meals specifically for workers.

✅ Surplus of Good – Aims to reduce food waste by redistributing excess food.

Through these efforts, the UAE Food Bank continues to make a significant impact, ensuring that the spirit of Ramadan is shared with everyone.

Spreading Generosity: How ‘United in Giving’ is Making an Impact

The ‘United in Giving’ initiative is taking meaningful steps to support communities across the UAE during Ramadan, with a focus on reducing food waste and ensuring meals reach those who need them most.

🌍 Blessing Baskets: 200,000 Meals Daily

This initiative will distribute 200,000 meals per day, collected from retail stores, food establishments, manufacturers, and suppliers. Additionally, surplus cooked and uncooked food from hotels, restaurants, corporate donors, and individuals will be redistributed to beneficiaries. Partnering with charities and public/private sector organizations, the UAE Food Bank ensures that food reaches those most in need.

👷‍♂️ Zabeel Iftar: Supporting 3,000+ Workers

Dedicated to blue-collar workers, this initiative provides daily iftar meals as a reflection of the UAE’s commitment to social solidarity and recognition of their contributions to society.

♻️ Surplus of Good: Raising Awareness on Food Sustainability

In collaboration with Fatafeat TV, this awareness program educates the public on creative ways to repurpose surplus food. Featuring six episodes in five languages (Arabic, English, Amharic, Indonesian, and Urdu), it showcases innovative recipes crafted by chefs, volunteers, and individuals from diverse backgrounds—helping people transform extra food into nutritious meals.

A Call to Action for a Better Future

His Excellency Eng. Marwan Ahmed bin Ghalita, Vice Chairman of the UAE Food Bank, describes ‘United in Giving’ as a call to action for individuals, institutions, and philanthropists to contribute to the welfare of millions. The initiative aligns with Sheikh Mohammed’s vision to position the UAE as a global leader in humanitarian work while fostering a culture of giving and social responsibility.

Meanwhile, ne’ma, the UAE’s National Food Loss and Waste Initiative, is also launching campaigns this Ramadan, reinforcing the importance of responsible consumption and sustainability.
