Review: Public in Al Bateen, Abu Dhabi

Public in Al Bateen, Abu Dhabi

Cool isn’t just cool here—it’s classy.

Marsa Al Bateen is one of those underrated culinary gems in Abu Dhabi, mostly known for its stylish cafes and unique dining spots. But in recent years, it’s become home to some of the city’s most talked-about venues, including Saddle House and tashas. Now, adding to that lineup is Public—a feast for the eyes and the taste buds.

Already a hit in Dubai, with locations at Dubai Mall and the Museum of the Future, Public has finally made its way to the capital. And it’s not just another restaurant—it’s a statement. Sitting proudly on a prime corner of the Al Bateen promenade, this place blends modern aesthetics with a laid-back vibe, drawing in locals and tourists alike.

With more and more of Abu Dhabi’s favorite spots popping up in this area, Public fits right in. Whether you’re looking for a quick coffee or a leisurely meal with a view, this stylish eatery makes a solid case for being your next go-to spot.

A Feast for the Senses

The first thing that grabs your attention as you step inside Public is the vibrant atmosphere. Bright chandeliers cast a warm glow over orange-hued interiors, while edgy street-style wall art—complete with faux graffiti—adds a playful touch. It’s a unique mix, somewhere between a retro arcade, a diner, and a cozy family restaurant. One moment, you’re cutting into gourmet dishes with polished cutlery; the next, you’re diving into a pile of parmesan fries. It’s an unexpected contrast but one that works beautifully, especially in a city that values its well-loved dining spots.

Midweek Munching

Visiting midweek, we’re greeted by an enthusiastic server who quickly recommends Public’s best dishes—saving us from the dilemma of scrolling through its paperless menu.

We start with the Curly Corn (Dhs53)—buttery, herbed, and loaded with creamy cheese sauce. It’s messy in the best way, and you even get disposable gloves to fully enjoy it. For mains, we’re guided towards the Buffalo Pizza (Dhs79), a bold and indulgent choice with fried chicken strips and tangy buffalo sauce. If pasta is more your speed, the Crazy Truffle Pasta (Dhs89) is a must-try—rich, creamy, and packed with that unmistakable truffle aroma Abu Dhabi diners love.

To complement the meal, we go for a classic bowl of parmesan fries (Dhs29) and the Italian Passion mocktail (Dhs35)—a refreshing mix of passionfruit, pomegranate, and pineapple leaves. It’s tangy, fruity, and the perfect drink for those warm Abu Dhabi evenings.

The Dessert That Got Away

While we didn’t get around to trying the Tiramisu (Dhs34), we’ve heard glowing reviews from those who have. Served in a shareable portion, it seems like the perfect way to end a meal—so consider saving some space for it!

The Verdict

If you’re looking for a spot that effortlessly combines style, comfort, and indulgent eats, Public in Al Bateen is a winner. Whether you’re here for a casual hangout or a full-on feast, this latest addition to Abu Dhabi’s dining scene is one you’ll want to keep coming back to.
