Al Khail Dubai Metro Station Gets a New Name

The Next Station Is… Al Fardan Exchange

If you work or live near Dubai Media City, take note—Al Khail Dubai Metro station on the Red Line has been officially renamed to Al Fardan Exchange.

According to Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), the naming rights agreement provides a strategic branding opportunity for Al Fardan Exchange, utilizing the high-traffic metro network to boost visibility and engage directly with a diverse commuter base.

Al Khail Metro Station Name Change: What You Need to Know

The name change of Al Khail Metro Station to Al Fardan Exchange will be reflected both externally and internally, including directional signage, smart systems, public transport apps, and onboard audio announcements.

The RTA has advised metro riders to take note of the change and seek assistance from station representatives if needed.

🔹 Timeline: The transition will occur from April to June 2025, so don’t be surprised if you still spot the old name during this period!

Major Upgrades: New Nol Card System Coming by 2026

Dubai’s RTA is set to roll out a new nol card system by 2026, bringing major upgrades to public transport payments.

The Dubai Metro stations naming rights initiative, launched in 2009, was the first of its kind worldwide. Frequent name changes along the metro line are common, often reflecting either the station’s location or the sponsor behind the renaming.

Dubai Metro Station Naming Rights: A Multi-Million Dirham Deal

According to Gulf Business, securing naming rights for a Dubai Metro station can cost up to Dhs40 million for a 10-year period, depending on the station’s location.

The last renaming took place in September 2024, when InsuranceMarket took over the naming rights for the former Mashreq Metro Station.

For long-time commuters, the station now known as Al Fardan Exchange has undergone multiple name changes—from Nakheel to Al Khail, and now its latest identity. If you deboard here, it may take some time to adjust, so stay alert to avoid missing your stop!
